Private Luxury Home Theater for Simon Cowell – Beverly Hills
The Vision
Create a no-compromise private cinema capable of presenting films exactly as directors intended—viewed in their native aspect ratio, with reference-level image and immersive sound—while maintaining the refined aesthetic of a Beverly Hills estate.
The theater would ultimately be featured on The Insider as Simon Cowell’s favorite room in his home—an endorsement that speaks for itself.
The Challenge
Most luxury theaters prioritize appearance over performance. This project demanded both:
-
True anamorphic 2.40 cinematic presentation
-
Instant recall of multiple native aspect ratios (2.40, 1.85, 1.78 and custom formats)
-
Ultra-high brightness without projector noise
-
Fully immersive surround sound with no visible speakers
-
Reference-grade acoustics without compromising interior design
Every technical decision had to serve performance. Every aesthetic decision had to preserve elegance.
The Engineering Solution
Native Aspect Ratio Cinema
A Stewart Filmscreen variable masking anamorphic 2.40 screen was selected to ensure films were displayed precisely as mastered. The masking system automatically adjusted to each format—2.40, 1.85, 1.78, and beyond—recalling instantly based on source content.
Reference Projection
A Runco 3-chip DLP projector delivered exceptional light output and ultra-high resolution. To eliminate any mechanical noise within the seating area, the projector was housed inside a custom-engineered quiet enclosure—maintaining optimal cooling performance without introducing ambient distraction.
Invisible Audio Architecture
A transparent projection screen allowed the front speakers to be positioned directly behind the image, preserving correct acoustic localization without sacrificing visual clarity.
State-of-the-art surround processing and amplification powered a fully immersive Dolby playback environment, with in-wall, in-ceiling, and on-wall speakers carefully integrated so that no hardware disrupted the room’s design language.
Acoustic Design & Aesthetic Integration
Custom acoustic room design and paneling by David Frangioni delivered reference-quality room response while elevating the space visually. The result was a theater that performs like a professional screening room yet feels like a natural extension of a luxury residence.
The Outcome
-
Director-accurate cinematic presentation
-
Silent operation, even at high output levels
-
Fully immersive surround sound without visible technology
-
Aesthetic refinement equal to performance capability
-
Recognized publicly as the homeowner’s favorite room
Why It Matters
This project reflects a philosophy: luxury is not about equipment lists—it’s about execution.
When properly engineered, a private cinema becomes more than a room. It becomes the most compelling experience in the home.
Private Luxury Home Recording Studio for Ozzy Osbourne
The Vision
When Ozzy Osbourne decided to build his first-ever home studio, the goal was clear:
Create a world-class recording environment inside his home—capable of producing full-length albums at the highest professional level.
This was not a demo room. It was to be a fully capable production facility where Ozzy could record drums, vocals, full band sessions, and mix commercially released records without leaving the property.
The studio and its creative process were later featured across two seasons of The Osbournes on MTV.
The Challenge
The studio needed to deliver:
-
Professional drum tracking
-
Isolated vocal recording
-
Full band live recording capability
-
World-class mixing accuracy
-
Silent technical infrastructure
-
Seamless integration into a private residence
And one specific personal request from Ozzy himself:
A classic red RECORDING light outside the room to signal when sessions were in progress.
The Engineering Solution
Purpose-Built Recording Spaces
The facility included a dedicated drum booth, isolated vocal booth, and a live room engineered for controlled energy and flexibility. Each space was acoustically designed to support both precision tracking and creative performance.
Professional Control Environment
At the heart of the studio was a Control24 control surface paired with Genelec monitoring, delivering accurate translation for professional mixing decisions. A Pro Tools HDX system powered the recording and editing workflow, supported by a comprehensive suite of industry-standard plugins.
Dedicated Machine Room
To preserve acoustic integrity in the control room, a separate machine room housed computers and processing equipment. Double-pane glass doors ensured visual connection while maintaining isolation from fan and hardware noise.
Signature Touch
The custom-installed red recording light became both a functional necessity and a symbolic studio feature—bringing authentic professional studio culture into the home.
The Outcome
-
Multiple full-length albums recorded, edited, and mixed on-site
-
A duet with Jessica Simpson produced within the studio
-
Featured prominently on MTV’s The Osbournes
-
A private residential studio operating at true commercial production standards
Why It Matters
Building a luxury home studio is not about filling a room with gear. It’s about engineering an environment that performs under real-world recording demands.
This studio didn’t just look impressive on television.
It delivered finished records.
