I started a MIDI consulting business at 16, at a time when most musicians had never heard the word. Drums led me there. I wanted the feel of a real kit with the sounds of a record, so I learned triggering, sequencing, sampling and programming until I could make them work on stage and in the studio. I got so immersed in the technology that I helped spearhead and innovate MIDI throughout the industry.
That path took me to being called by the band Aerosmith, where I worked as in-house engineer and technologist on singles, albums and tours, including the Spider-Man theme with Joe Perry. It led to one of the first drum sample libraries. It still shapes how I build hybrid kits and studio rigs today.
When it comes to computers and MIDI, I put David Frangioni in the Hall of Fame.

What I help with
- Hybrid and electronic drum rigs for touring and studio players
- Triggering, sample replacement and drum programming
- MIDI system design for studios and live production
- Planning for MIDI 2.0 in new rigs and products
- MIDI rigs, remote recording setups and backline setup integration

Why it matters now
MIDI 2.0 brings higher resolution, two-way communication and far more expression. The players who lived MIDI’s first era know what was lost and gained the first time. I help artists and companies get the second era right.
